Suigintou is the first doll in the Rozen Maiden collection. Her desire to win the Alice Game is unmatched, fueled by her longing for "Father's" (Rozen's) attention. Characterized by her sadistic, spiteful, and arrogant nature due to her superiority complex, Suigintou stops at nothing to achieve victory. She employs any means necessary, no matter how brutal, to secure her win. Although she generally avoids socializing with other dolls, her hatred for Shinku borders on obsession, as she can recall the exact time since their last encounter down to the minute.
Her encounter with Megu, her medium, marks a turning point in Suigintou's motivations. She begins to develop strong affection for someone other than "Father." Her protective feelings towards Megu eventually overshadow her desire to meet Rozen; she hopes to use the collected Rosa Mystica to heal Megu's heart condition instead of becoming Alice.
Suigintou has several unique traits and flaws among the seven Rozen Maidens. In the anime, she lacks a torso because her design was erased before completion, though the reason remains unclear. After being destroyed by Shinku, she is mysteriously restored mid-way through Rozen Maiden Träumend. The identity of her restorer is never revealed. In the finale of Rozen Maiden Träumend, she tells Shinku that "Father" assured her that despite her flawed body, she was entitled to participate in the Alice Game. Later, Rozen is seen tenderly fixing her neck ribbon while she is unconscious, implying he has mended her incomplete form.
In the manga, her body is marred by wings that have cracked her back. Despite these flaws, her love for "Father" and her willpower are so strong that she can operate independently of a medium. Initially, Suigintou's will to exist was so powerful that she could move without possessing a Rosa Mystica. She did not consciously make a contract with Megu; rather, Megu found her during her reawakening. Suigintou's independence and disdain for humanity kept her from seeking a medium. She is also the only Rozen Maiden to have been defeated and revived three times.
In Rozen Maiden Ouvertüre, her complete backstory is revealed. Her intense hatred for Shinku stems from noticing Rozen affixing a brooch with his image on Shinku’s bow at the moment of her awakening. They became friends in 19th century London, unaware of the true purpose of the Rozen Maidens—destruction through the Alice Game. One day, Suigintou follows Shinku into an Alice Game battle with Souseiseki and is cut in half, revealing her incomplete body. She then receives her own Rosa Mystica from "Father," making her a true Rozen Maiden. Shinku later admits pitying Suigintou, calling her a "poor, unfinished doll," which infuriates Suigintou. This leads to her releasing her black wings for the first time and starting an Alice Game battle with Shinku. She crushes Rozen's brooch in front of Shinku, leading Shinku to call her "junk," a term she now uses to refer to other dolls, especially Shinku.
Along with her artificial spirit, Meimei, Suigintou's weapons include her ragged black wings, capable of forming arrow-like feathers into shields, swords, or twin black dragons. She can also create destructive blue flames as a last resort. Her diverse abilities, combined with her cunning nature, make her a formidable player in the Alice Game.
