Sting, along with Auel Neider and Stella Loussier, forms the trio of Extended pilots in the Earth Alliance’s elite Phantom Pain unit. They infiltrate the PLANT colony Armory One, making off with one of the three new Gundam-type mobile suits, the ZGMF-X24S Chaos.
Sting participates in two significant space battles: the first in the debris belt and the second amid the ruins of the destroyed PLANT colony Junius 7. Following the outbreak of the Second Bloody Valentine War, Sting and his Phantom Pain team descend to Earth. Here, they engage in multiple skirmishes against the ZAFT ship Minerva, though their efforts yield little success. Sting frequently clashes with Athrun Zala, who pilots the ZGMF-X23S Saviour.
During a reconnaissance mission in the ZAFT-controlled city of Diokia, Sting and his comrades cross paths with Shinn Asuka and Athrun Zala without realizing each other's identities. In the ensuing Battle of Crete, Kira Yamato's ZGMF-X10A Freedom damages Sting’s Chaos, but it is swiftly repaired to support Stella’s GFAS-X1 Destroy. Stella wreaks havoc across several European cities until reaching Berlin, where Sting faces off against three MVF-M11C Murasame units from the Archangel and is ultimately defeated when the Chaos is sliced in half.
Despite surviving this encounter, Sting is later stationed at Heaven's Base in Iceland, piloting one of five GFAS-X1 Destroy units. When ZAFT initiates Operation Ragnarok, he defends Heaven's Base. Gradually losing his remaining mental stability during the battle, Sting meets his end at the hands of Shinn Asuka and his ZGMF-X42S Destiny, impaled by the Destiny’s sword.
