Lacus Clyne is a renowned pop idol in the PLANTs, largely due to her father, Siegel Clyne, who was the Supreme Council chairman of PLANT, and her enchanting singing voice. Initially engaged to Athrun Zala through an arranged marriage, their relationship became more political over time, despite initial feelings of love when they first met.
Lacus enters the series while traveling on a civilian vessel for a memorial ceremony on Junius Seven. The ship is mistaken for a ZAFT military aircraft and attacked by the Earth Alliance. She escapes safely via a lifepod. Kira discovers her escape pod in the Strike and brings it back to the Archangel.
The lifepod opens to reveal a small pink robotic ball followed by Lacus herself, surprised to be saved by Earth forces. Despite being held hostage, she remains cheerful and kind to everyone aboard. When ZAFT forces discover the Archangel, a battle ensues. Natarle Badgiruel reveals Lacus' presence to ZAFT, hoping to avoid further conflict.
Kira is deeply affected by Flay's harsh words but finds comfort in Lacus. They bond over their mutual connection to Athrun Zala, who made both Lacus' Haro/Pink-chan and Kira's Torii. Kira decides to return Lacus to Athrun.
Before meeting Kira, Lacus had already influenced the war indirectly by advocating peace through her songs. Her encounter with the Archangel strengthens her resolve to aid Kira, causing Athrun to question his role in the war.
In time, Lacus falls in love with Kira, which becomes more evident in Gundam Seed Destiny. Her engagement to Athrun ends amicably without any dispute.
