Shinn is the main protagonist of Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny.
Shinn lived with his parents and younger sister in the neutral country of Orb. However, on June 15, the Earth Alliance attacked Orb. Caught in the crossfire between the GAT-X131 Calamity and the ZGMF-X10A Freedom mobile suits, Shinn's family perished, leaving him as the sole survivor. The exact cause of the explosion that killed his family remains unclear, but Shinn blamed Orb’s rulers, the Athhas, believing they should have surrendered to the Earth Alliance Forces rather than risk civilian lives in a battle they couldn't win. This tragedy fueled his desire for revenge and his hatred towards Orb and its "sugarcoated" ideals of achieving peace without weapons.
Captain Todaka, an Orb soldier, took care of Shinn and eventually sent him to the PLANTs, where he joined ZAFT. He graduated as one of the top students in his class, earning the rank of "ZAFT Red."
After graduation, Shinn was assigned to pilot ZAFT's ZGMF-X56S Impulse Gundam and stationed aboard the battleship Minerva under Commander Talia Gladys. His fellow crew members included former military academy classmates Rey Za Burrel, Vino Dupre, Lunamaria Hawke, Meyrin Hawke, and Yolant Kent. Despite the passage of time, Shinn never forgot the tragic end of his family and frequently experienced flashbacks, both painful and nostalgic, especially remembering his sister Mayu.
