Sigel was originally an antique welcome mannequin in the shape of a ten-year-old girl, equipped with a "welcome" message recorded on an internal tape player. Owned by an antique shop, Banpei fell in love with the mannequin at first sight, even taking her immobile form out on a date. When the mannequin's voice player eventually broke down, she was sent to the scrapyard and later claimed by Chihiro, the owner of Whirlwind Garage. Chihiro gave the mannequin, now fitted with a new digital voice player, to Skuld.
After Skuld transformed the mannequin into a sentient, walking robot, Sigel showed reluctance in forming a relationship with Banpei, though she secretly harbored affection for him due to his unwavering devotion. This welcome robot remained unnamed until much later when Belldandy gave her the name Sigel.
Sigel displays a great deal of admiration and affection for Skuld, whom she addresses as "mistress," and she also shows respect for Belldandy. Despite lacking the extensive arsenal that Banpei possesses, Sigel does her best to keep demons away from the temple. Her only weapons are skating wheels located in the heels of her feet and detachable rocket punch hands, which Skuld explains are standard issue for robots.
