A humanoid robot designed and built by Skuld, Banpei-kun's primary role is to guard the temple. Initially tasked with protecting it from threats posed by Marller, his duties have expanded to include safeguarding against any demon threats and even 'protecting' Belldandy from Keiichi Morisato. As Skuld continuously develops new add-ons and functionalities, Banpei has acquired numerous abilities over time. Originally dependent on an external power cable, he was later equipped with a battery, enabling him to travel anywhere for extended periods. However, when the battery runs low, Banpei must shut down and enter a memory preservation mode.
Banpei's programming has evolved autonomously, granting him sentience, an appreciation for life, and after meeting Sigel, the capacity to love. Despite Sigel's lack of interest in him, Banpei remains undeterred and invests significant effort into gaining her appreciation. He is willing to risk severe damage to himself to assist her. His emotional circuits operate at varying levels, ranging from being completely inactive to nearly lifelike. Recently, these circuits have stabilized, ensuring that he remains 'alive' at all times. Unable to express emotions verbally, Banpei occasionally uses a permanent marker to draw his feelings on his face: a tear for sadness, a furrowed brow and clenched teeth for anger.
