Sakurano serves as the student council president and is the primary representative of the school. In the manga, he shares a close friendship with Subaru Imai. When they were in the High School division, Sakurano and Subaru pretended to be ghosts searching for a victim. It is revealed that Sakurano possesses three Alices: teleportation, intuition, and wish/prayer (telepathy).
Sakurano has known Subaru since elementary school, making their bond exceptionally strong. He also knew Mikan's parents when he was young, which explains why both he and Subaru care deeply for Mikan and are always ready to protect her. Sakurano once created an Alice Stone for Mikan, ensuring it would follow her wherever she went. This Alice Stone assisted Mikan in reaching Natsume during the Alice Stone game. Sakurano holds a particular fondness for Mikan.
He frequently aids Mikan in various situations. In a special chapter featuring Subaru and himself, it was shown that they used to tease each other with nicknames and were caught by Jinno, resulting in detention. During his younger years, Sakurano displayed arrogance towards Subaru while pretending to be kind to others.
