shoushun

Shoushun is a female sage (nyosen) who lives on Mt. Hou. She is one of the fifty oracles tasked with caring for and protecting the young kirin, creatures that choose the rulers of each kingdom, born on the mountain. Shoushun came from a village in En that was suffering under Setsuzan—the destruction and devastation caused by a corrupt king—under the previous ruler, Kyou-Ou, who oppressed his people. One day, her village was burned to the ground, leaving only the children alive. She found the shrine of Oubo and prayed to Seioubo of Gozan to be taken to Mt. Hou and become a sennin. Shoushun clung to a fallen pillar, continuously chanting to Seioubo until she was visited by the people of Gozan and became a sennin. When Shoushun meets Enki, she often accompanies him and informs him of his duty to eventually choose the next king of En, whose presence should stabilize the state and bring peace. However, she is deeply saddened by Enki's cynicism and his resolve never to choose a king, believing them to be war-mongers who destroy lives and entire nations.
