The blue monkey that lives inside Kei's sword. In truth, it is a part of Youko's conscience that constantly teases her. Aozaru (Azure Monkey) embodies the sentient spirit of the scabbard of the Suigūtō, the Water Monkey Sword. This sword is a royal treasure in the kingdom of Kei and can only be wielded by the rightful ruler of the kingdom, making Youko the sole person who can draw the sword from its sheath. The sword was forged from a water demon defeated by a past great ruler of Kei, while the scabbard was crafted from a long-tailed monkey demon. Hanging from the scabbard is a large jewel capable of healing whoever holds it. The sword possesses the power to kill demons and sages, break through metal chains, and present visions of the past, future, and distant events. The sword and scabbard must remain together; otherwise, the phantasms of the sword appear unchecked and the spirit of the scabbard acts freely. When Youko loses the scabbard, it manifests as Aozaru, the blue monkey, taunting her with her doubts while the sword shows her visions of things she does not wish to see. Eventually, Youko overcomes her doubts, kills the monkey, and picks up the dead scabbard. With Aozaru dead, anyone can draw the sword from the sheath, though only Youko can wield it effectively.
