Age: 14 Birthday: July 10 Shion is Mion's identical twin sister, currently living in Okinomiya. Despite their contrasting personalities, Shion and Mion frequently swap places, making it challenging to tell them apart. Their first switch occurred during childhood. Just before the ritual tattooing of the oni symbol, designated for the elder sister, a mix-up led to Shion being mistakenly identified as the younger sister. This means she was actually born as Mion Sonozaki, the older sister. Following this incident, they exchanged identities, with Shion taking on the role of the younger sister. The Sonozaki family sent her to a private boarding school, but she escaped and returned to live near her hometown, residing with Kasai. Despite these circumstances, Shion and Mion maintain a close bond. In most story arcs, Shion attends a different school from the main characters, leading to fewer appearances. She works as a waitress at Angel-Mort restaurant and serves as the assistant manager for the Hinamizawa Fighters little league team. She often carries a taser and wears a yellow ribbon in her hair. Shion also demonstrates proficiency with firearms, alongside Kasai, as shown in Matsuribayashi-hen. Shion was in love with Satoshi and holds the Three Families of Hinamizawa responsible for his disappearance in Watanagashi-hen and Meakashi-hen (the latter narrated from her perspective). This, coupled with a sadistic personality that emerged from her grief, drove her to commit mass murder, resulting in psychosis. One of the last exchanges between Satoshi and Shion was a promise to take care of Satoko. In Watanagashi-hen and, more explicitly, Meakashi-hen, her resentment towards Satoko for her involvement in Satoshi's disappearance causes her to forget this promise and murder Satoko, only to regret it too late. However, in subsequent arcs, Shion takes this promise seriously, even willing to sacrifice her life for Satoko.
