Like Satoko, Satoshi cannot tell the difference between cauliflower and broccoli, suggesting that both might be color-blind. Satoshi is affectionately called Nii-Nii by Satoko, a childlike way of saying "older brother" in Japanese. It is revealed in the Festival Accompanying Chapter (Matsuribayashi-hen) that Satoshi is actually alive. Shion Sonozaki learns from Kyosuke Irie that Satoshi has been kept in the underground levels of the Irie Clinic. He is sedated and restrained, receiving treatment for Level Five Hinamizawa Syndrome, which developed after he killed his aunt on the night of the Watanagashi festival.
