Hatsumi's elder (adopted) brother, who harbors romantic feelings for her. He is exceptionally kind and supportive. At the start of the series, he is a freshman studying law at Hitotsubashi University. His presence at home is scarce due to his involvement in club activities and various part-time jobs. Shinogu was taken in by the Narita family when he was a young child, but his biological parents had left behind substantial debts upon their death. Shihoko and Toru Narita are perpetually arguing over how they will repay these debts. This leads to Mr. Tachibana devising a plot where he offers to pay Toru if he pretends to be having an affair, ensuring that any investigation would point towards him. Consequently, Miho and Mr. Tachibana have their affair, which ends with Miho's death, setting the stage for Azusa's scheme. Hatsumi falls into this trap, Ryoki rescues her, and their relationship evolves, placing her family in social peril. To repay the debt, Shinogu tries to make amends by moving out and taking on multiple part-time jobs, rather than following his heart regarding both his studies and his feelings for Hatsumi.
