Akane is one of Makoto's three older sisters and works as a make-up artist, though she is still technically a student. At 22 years old, she was the first to learn about Makoto's secret relationship with Ito. Akane is very kind and supportive, always ready to help them whenever she can. She appears to have a fondness for Ito and looks almost identical to Makoto, though she cut her hair halfway through the first volume.
Among Makoto's family, Akane is the most supportive of his decision to become an actor. She often assists him when he needs it, providing clothes, make-up, or costumes. It was Akane who inspired Makoto to pursue acting after she helped him sneak out of the house following a heated argument with his father, taking him to see a local play. Thanks to her skills, Makoto can convincingly pass as a girl throughout high school; she even taught him how to do his own makeup independently.
Though quiet and naturally formal, Akane is also observant and wise. She eventually meets Ito's brother Yûto, and they get along exceptionally well. The name Akane has various spellings but means "madder," a type of flower, which aligns with her two sisters' names.
