Shen Long is the wish-granting dragon (also known as Kami Ryuu or God Dragon) of Earth. Unlike the green Shen Long of Earth, the Shen Long associated with the Black Star Dragon Balls is red.
To summon Shen Long, one must gather all seven Dragon Balls of Earth. He can grant any wish as long as it does not surpass the power of his creator, who must still be alive, such as Kami or Dende. Throughout the Dragon Ball series, Shen Long has threatened to kill the summoner if they fail to make a wish promptly or do not make a wish at all. Shen Long cannot revive a person more than once. After a wish is made, the Dragon Balls become unusable for 365 Earth days and turn to stone. The Earth Dragon Balls are relatively small, about the size of large oranges, much smaller compared to the Namekian Dragon Balls, which are as big as beach balls.
The foundation of Shen Long is a stone statue kept by his creator. If Shen Long is killed, the Dragon Balls turn to stone, and the statue shatters. However, if the creator or another Namekian wishes, they can rebuild the statue, thereby restoring life to Shen Long and the Dragon Balls. This occurred after Shen Long granted Piccolo Daimao's wish for youth.
Before Kami and Piccolo were merged, Shen Long could only grant one wish. After Dende revived him, he was able to grant two wishes (or three if the first wish does not revive more than one person at a time). If the summoner prefers, they can choose to make only one wish, which results in the Dragon Balls turning to stone for just six months.
