Shana is a young girl with jet black hair almost as long as her entire body height. She has dark brown eyes and a fair complexion. As a Flame Haze, her body remains perpetually at the age of an 11 to 12-year-old. When invoking her powers, her hair and eyes transform into a fiery crimson, with embers floating from her head.
In her early years as a Flame Haze, she wears all-black attire including a shirt, pants, and a Treasure Tool called Yogasa in the form of a trench coat. However, after deciding to stay in Misaki City, she usually wears the city's high school uniform, switching to the Yogasa as a cape during combat.
During her stay inside Seireiden, she is seen wearing a red-and-black frilly dress.
Initially focused solely on her duty as a Flame Haze, Shana didn't consider having a name important. She saw Yuuji merely as a Torch, albeit interesting due to his status as a Mystes. Gradually, she opens up to Yuuji, eventually showing affection towards him. Through Yuuji's influence, Shana begins to appreciate human life more, though she remains confused by certain human behaviors, sometimes masking jealousy.
Shana often says "Urusai! Urusai! Urusai!" ("Shut up! Shut up! Shut up!") when Yuuji disturbs her worldview or embarrasses her. Despite this, they genuinely care for each other. She has a fondness for sweets, especially melon bread.
Highly intelligent, Shana scores perfectly on exams and excels in Physical Education but is naive about social matters, once asking Chigusa bluntly how babies are made.
Known only as the "Flaming-Haired, Blazing-Eyed Hunter," Shana gains her name from Yuuji, named after her sword. As a Flame Haze, she hunts Guze no Tomogara to protect the world's balance. With Alastor, the "Flame of the Heavens" residing within her necklace, she becomes one of the most powerful Flame Haze.
Renowned and feared, Shana defeats many Denizens and wields various abilities, including Nietono no Shana proficiency, flame manipulation, Power of Existence control, extrasensory traits, and flight with fiery wings. In the manga's third volume, novel's first volume, and movie, Alastor reveals that her survival after Friagne's attack was due to her dimensional capacity, naming her "The Great One."
Unrestricted Spells
Wings of Crimson (紅蓮の双翼 Guren no Souyoku) - Fiery wings appear on her back, enabling flight. Initially, she needs Yuuji nearby; later, she uses them independently, evading Hecate’s Aster spell.
Great Blade of Crimson (紅蓮の大太刀 Guren no Oodachi) - Her sword is coated in flames, which can be hurled at enemies.
Heaven-and-Earth Sundering (天破壌砕 Tenpa Jousai) - An Unrestricted Spell causing widespread damage. Unlike her predecessor Mathilde Saint-Omer, Shana survives using it due to her immense Power of Existence.
Sophie Sawallisch notes her lack of battle experience, leading to defeat against Margery Daw.
Rescued as an infant by Wilhelmina Carmel and Shiro, she is raised and trained in Tendoukyuu. After its destruction, she separates from Wilhelmina in Hong Kong to learn independently. Later, she travels with Sophie Sawallisch, improving her combat skills and femininity.
She meets Yuuji during an attack by Friagne, becoming involved in events leading to Misaki City. Her relationship with Yuuji drives much of the series. While mostly indifferent to others, she respects Chigusa Sakai for guidance.
Meeting Yuuji introduces new emotions like love and jealousy, affecting her combat decisions. Realizing Yuuji's presence improves her fighting, she unlocks new abilities.
Yuuji's disappearance devastates her, prompting training with Margery. Upon his return as Bal Masqué's leader, she is captured and confined in Seireiden. Saved by Yuuji and regaining her powers, she kills Uvall using new Unrestricted Spells, escaping with Khamsin, Rebecca, and Wilhelmina.
