Sakuya is a highly influential woman within the clan, having earned the loyalty of many, including Sanada Yukimura. As a seer, she possesses the ability to predict future events. Her brother, Shiina Nozumi, a shaman, has the power to look into a person's past. Sakuya played a significant role in the outcome of the Battle of Sekigahara and was involved in the appearance and disappearance of Demon Eyes Kyo.

Sakuya does not exhibit any physical manifestations of her power. It is made clear that she has always been in love with Kyoshiro, not Kyo, and continues to be deeply concerned about Kyo while remaining in love with Kyoshiro. To both Kyoshiro and Kyo, she is seen as a dear friend. Sakuya is also depicted as the initial cause of the disagreement between Kyo and Kyoshiro, which eventually led to the body-stealing and soul-swapping incidents.
