Haruhi's father works at a cross-dressing bar. He mentions that he was initially bisexual but started cross-dressing after his wife's death, as he could never love another woman. Unlike Haruhi, who is practical and uninterested in material possessions, her father struggles with money management and often buys girly outfits for Haruhi, hoping to make her dress more cutely. Haruhi's strong sense of self-reliance causes her father considerable worry; he wishes to be more involved in her life and do more for her, but she seldom allows him to do so. Despite this, their relationship is clearly filled with love. While her father desires to take care of Haruhi, it often seems that Haruhi ends up taking care of him instead.
