Hikaru Hitachiin is a mischievous and playful first-year student who takes great pleasure in teasing his fellow Host Club members Haruhi and Tamaki, whom he often calls "My Lord." He and his younger twin brother, Kaoru, are known as "little devil" hosts who perform an act of "forbidden brotherly love" to attract their clients. In this act, Hikaru plays the dominant role. Unlike Tamaki, the Hitachiin brothers are meticulously strategic in their interactions with customers, driven by their intense bond and reluctance to let others into their world. Their relationship was shaped by a lonely childhood where no one could tell them apart except for the parting of their hair (Hikaru's hair parts to the right; Kaoru's parts to the left). Haruhi, being the first person who can distinguish between them, holds a special place in their hearts. Despite being identical twins, Haruhi notes that they have distinct personalities. Hikaru, though older, is more controlling during their twincest acts but also more immature than Kaoru.
Tamaki persuaded the brothers to join the Host Club during their final year of middle school. When they challenged him to guess which one was Hikaru, Tamaki persistently followed them around, making random guesses. Eventually, they relented and joined, marking their first step towards expanding their world. Later in the manga, both Hikaru and Kaoru develop feelings for Haruhi. Although she had already rejected him once, Hikaru remains determined not to lose to Tamaki. Ultimately, Hikaru accepts that Haruhi loves Tamaki and encourages her to confess her feelings, claiming he has moved on and wants them to be together, though he always looks pained when saying this.
