Rock is a recurring character in Osamu Tezuka's manga series and plays a significant role within Tezuka's Star System. He is depicted as a young boy with glossy dark hair. His first appearance was in the manga "Detective Boy Rock Holmes," where he functioned as a child detective. Unlike other child characters created by Tezuka who remained ageless, Rock matured over time and was subsequently cast into more complex roles that showcased his evolving personality. As he grew older, his character took on darker traits, often appearing as an antagonist in various works. In particular, in series such as "Phoenix," Rock's persona became notorious for kidnapping and murder.
In his more mature form, Rock typically dresses in a three-piece suit complemented by a striped tie and dark sunglasses, the latter becoming a signature look for him. American audiences are perhaps most familiar with Rock through his sinister and violent portrayals in the animated film "Metropolis" and the second volume of "Alabaster." Throughout these adaptations, Rock’s character displays a blend of good and evil traits but consistently embodies determination, absoluteness, and charisma.
