lamp acetylene

First Appearance: 1948 – Jungle Kingdom
Acetylene Lamp is well recognized for the recurring joke involving a candle that appears in the dent at the back of his head. This distinctive feature was inspired by one of Tezuka's childhood friends who shared similar traits with the character. Acetylene Lamp frequently appears as one of Tezuka's go-to villains, often taking on significant roles such as Inspector Tomobiki in various stories, a part in Black Jack, and perhaps most notably, as Acetylene Lampe in Adolf and Drake Lamp in the 2003 Astro Boy series. Additionally, he has taken on less prominent roles, like the conductor in the Marine Express from Undersea Super Train Marine Express.
In his early depictions, Lamp was characterized by his long face and large, round eyes. Over time, he was given thick, round glasses, which have since become a hallmark of his appearance. Despite being categorized as a villain, Lamp has portrayed a wide array of characters, ranging from minor assistants to major propaganda activists.
