First Appearance: 1945 – Tezuka's Treasure Island
Hamegg is one of Tezuka’s longest-running characters, first appearing in Tezuka’s early commercial manga, Treasure Island. He is notably recognized for his other roles, such as playing the evil hunter known as Viper Snakely in Kimba the White Lion. In the '97 movie Jungle Emperor Leo, he reprises the same character but with a different role.
Other significant roles include appearances in Nextworld, Metropolis, and Black Jack. Hamegg also took on larger one-time roles, such as an evil robot circus owner in Astro Boy. His most substantial part is that of Inspector Akabane from Adolf, which is also one of his most memorable performances.
Hamegg often embodies a gentleman-like image, yet never quite fits the mold due to his boorish mannerisms. Do not be deceived by his shorter, cuter forms; the smaller he gets, the more cynical he becomes.
