A recurring character in Osamu Tezuka's works, particularly notable in Astro Boy and Metropolis, Higeoyaji is a part of Tezuka's Star System. Throughout his various anime appearances, he has been voiced by numerous actors, with Kazuo Kumakura being the most renowned seiyuu for this role.
In Astro Boy, Higeoyaji is depicted as a school teacher and detective advocating for robot rights. However, his roles extend beyond this, frequently appearing as a detective in other narratives. His diverse portrayals include a lawyer, sushi bar chef, teacher, politician, judo expert, and even (in Rainbow Parakeet) a butterfly. He embodies the archetype of an affable elderly gentleman who could easily be a good friend, mentor, or the friendly neighbor next door.
