Ren is the son of Nana Komatsu and Takumi Ichinose, though it remains unclear who his real father is or if Satsuki Ichinose is his younger sister. He shares a close relationship with his father, Takumi, and currently resides with him in London, England.
Ren resembles his mother and has inherited the guitar-playing talent of his namesake, Ren Honjo. Reira Serizawa has a particularly strong bond with Ren and will only sing when he is playing the guitar.
