Rene, the former bassist of Blast, is actually the guitarist for Trapnest and is highly popular with fans. His music is well-received, and he once had a romantic relationship with Nana Osaki. Rene is a huge fan of the Sex Pistols; he participated in a tribute album for them and wears a "Sid Vicious" padlock around his neck, a gift from Nana. In honor of him, Nana got a lotus tattoo on her upper arm, as "Ren" means lotus in Japanese. Initially, Rene smoked 'Seven Stars' cigarettes.
Nana first encountered Rene through Nobu, who admired him from afar. Rene was well-known in their hometown for supposedly being found as an infant in an abandoned warehouse, where he still resides. He takes pride in this background rather than feeling ashamed.
Throughout the series, it becomes clear that Rene and Nana share many similarities but also have notable differences. Rene is more open about his love for Nana, even proposing to her, while such thoughts only made Nana feel frustrated. While Rene desires a family and children, Nana strongly dislikes the idea, fearing she would become a dependent housewife making miso soup all day.
Later in the series, Rene develops a drug addiction, causing his life to spiral out of control. After begging his manager for more drugs while suffering from withdrawal, he eventually dies. The cause of his death is a car crash. Reporters witnessed the incident. While driving, Rene saw a black cat, which he hallucinated to be Nana, leading him to swerve into a building—the very warehouse where he had lived his entire life. It remains unclear whether it was a suicide attempt or an accident. The crash into the building suggests a possible suicide, but Rene's hands were found covering his chest, unharmed, indicating he tried to protect them when he lost control of the car, suggesting an accident. Takumi believes it was not a suicide after seeing Rene's body, noting that Rene protected his precious guitar-playing hands. Due to the severity of the crash, Rene's face was unrecognizable.
