sou rangyoku

Rangyoku is a resilient and cheerful sixteen-year-old girl residing in a village in the Ei Province. She and her younger brother, Keikei, originally hail from the Wa Province. After their parents passed away during the latter part of Jokaku's reign, they initially decided to leave Kei but changed their minds when a new ruler was said to have ascended. Despite discovering that the ruler, Joei, was a false queen, Rangyoku and Keikei stayed in Kei and were fortunate enough to witness the true monarch, Sekishi, take the throne. In the village, Rangyoku assisted with household chores for one of the village elders, Enho. When their village came under attack by youma, many people were killed until Chuu Youshi, a young woman staying as Enho's guest, intervened. Rangyoku quickly formed a friendship with Youshi and helped acquaint her with everyday life in the Twelve Kingdoms. However, when Youshi was absent, men dispatched by Gahou, the governor of Wa, arrived to kill Enho. Keikei suffered severe injuries and Enho was abducted. Rangyoku sustained fatal wounds and stumbled into Youshi's room, where she discovered the seal of the king of Kei. Realizing that Youshi was the new monarch of Kei, Rangyoku used her last moments to hide the seal so the attackers would not learn that the ruler of Kei had been residing with Enho. She prayed for Youshi to save Keikei.
