She is the titular character and main protagonist of the series. Strong-willed, athletic, and attractive, she rules the streets of Shibuya. Despite coming from a family of police officers, she is ditzy and absent-minded when it comes to schoolwork, excelling only in physical education while struggling with subjects like mathematics and literature. In elementary school, she aspired to be a police officer but abandoned this dream after learning that officers can't wear accessories or dye their hair.
She has a keen eye for trends and often flatters guys who find her cute to get what she wants. She's also quite gluttonous. However, deep down, she possesses a strong sense of justice inherited from her family and becomes intimidating and tough during combat. At Hounan High, she serves as a role model for younger students due to her social status and understanding nature, though some view her with jealousy and anger.
Despite being an underachiever (barely graduating in the manga), Ran is smart and has a good memory for things she finds interesting, such as shopping. Her friends often joke, "If only she used that focus on studying..." Her boyfriend, Tatsuki Kuroi, is just as ditzy and unintelligent as she is, leading to a complicated yet comedic relationship. Though not particularly interested in boys, she does care for her boyfriend and even kissed his cheek in the manga.
She also has a foreign friend named Vivian Lin, a Taiwanese celebrity who looks remarkably like her, whom she met during a school trip to Taiwan. After the series concluded, Ran eventually became a police officer, as shown in Mihona Fujii’s page in the KochiKame Anniversary Book.
