Raditz is the biological brother of Son Goku and the eldest son of Bardock. He arrived on Earth with the intention of aiding in the planet's invasion and persuading his younger brother, Goku, to join the Saiyans in their conquest. However, Raditz was disheartened to find that Goku had lost his memories and adapted to life on Earth. In response, Raditz kidnapped Gohan, Goku's son, in an attempt to coerce Goku into becoming his ally.
During the ensuing battle between Raditz, Goku, and Piccolo, Gohan became enraged upon seeing his father in danger. This outburst of anger allowed Gohan to deliver a devastating blow to Raditz. Seizing the opportunity, Goku held Raditz in a full nelson, urging Piccolo to use the Special Beam Cannon to kill them both. Just before his demise, Raditz taunted them by revealing that two even more powerful Saiyans, Vegeta and Nappa, would arrive on Earth in one year.
