A mysterious man of unknown origin, Pycal first appears in episode two of the original Lupin III TV series, "The Man They Call a Magician." Pycal seems to possess extensive scientific knowledge and genuine magical abilities. He creates a hardened second skin to protect himself from burns and demonstrates the ability to fly and shoot fire from his fingers. Although Lupin and Jigen initially expose his "powers" as mere tricks, his reappearance in "Lupin III: Return of Pycal" suggests he indeed has otherworldly powers. After what appeared to be an unavoidable death, he returns with new abilities, including teleportation and telekinetic bullet-blocking.
Pycal made his manga debut in chapter seven, "The Hand is Quicker than the Spy," of the original Lupin III series. Notably, he is one of the few characters besides Lupin's gang and Zenigata to appear in more than one version of the series. Additionally, his levitation trick is indirectly referenced in "Lupin III: Mystery of Mamo."
