Piccolo Daimao is a character from the anime and manga series Dragon Ball, appearing occasionally in flashbacks in Dragon Ball Z. Introduced as a Mazoku, he once plunged Earth into chaos and pandemonium, spawning animal-like Namekians from within himself and turning a peaceful planet into a living hell. It is later revealed that he is the evil half and twin brother of Kami; they were originally one entity. Piccolo Daimao's name is derived from a musical instrument, and all his offspring are named after various instruments, with his being a flute and the others named after percussion instruments.
Piccolo Daimao came into existence about 300 years before the events of Dragon Ball when a powerful Namekian on Earth tried to become the guardian of Earth but was rejected due to the inherent evil within him. He then trained to separate the evil from within, resulting in two entities—Piccolo Daimao and Kami. If one perished, so would the other. Initially, "Piccolo" referred to the wind instrument, but Mr. Popo revealed to Bulma that it translates to "different world" in Namekian.
It remains unclear if Piccolo Daimao knew he was a Namekian. He demonstrated knowledge of the language and some powers and techniques of Namekian origin, even replicating Guru’s throne. If he did know, this suggests that the evil within Kami might have originated from being a Namekian warrior.
