Oolong is a shapeshifting humanoid pig, standing approximately three feet tall with pale pink skin. He typically dresses in trousers, button-down shirts, and suspenders. Oolong was expelled from his shapeshifting training for stealing the teacher's underwear and can only maintain a transformed state for up to five minutes at a time before needing a break. Despite this limitation, he can transform into virtually anything.
Initially, Oolong appeared as a villain who terrorized villages and kidnapped young women. However, Son Goku defeated him, rescuing the kidnapped girls. Bulma saw potential in Oolong's abilities and convinced him to join their quest for the Dragon Balls. Over time, he became close friends with Goku and the others, assisting them in finding more Dragon Balls.
Oolong plays a significant role early in the Dragon Ball series, but by the end of Dragon Ball Z, he makes only occasional appearances. His limited shapeshifting skills and inherent cowardice rendered him a relatively weak character once the series shifted to more serious themes. Nevertheless, he frequently appears in the anime and several movies as comic relief. Oolong is loosely based on the character Zhu Bajie from the classic Chinese novel "Journey to the West."
