Natsu Dragneel is the central character of the series and a member of the Fairy Tail Guild. He often works alongside his fellow guild members Happy, Lucy Heartfilia, Gray Fullbuster, and Erza Scarlet.
He is widely recognized by the public as a formidable mage known as "The Salamander." However, this nickname has begun to diminish over time as the series progresses.
Natsu's most distinctive features include his spiky pink hair and his iconic white scaly scarf, which was given to him by Igneel. He also bears a scar on the right side of his neck.
This scar originated during his childhood after a fight with Gray. His future self became frustrated with him and began slapping his younger self to wake him up. Young Natsu attempted to use magic on his older self after accusing him of being a monster, but the older Natsu slapped his hand away, causing young Natsu to accidentally cut his own neck. (OVA episode 3)
Natsu's eyes are uniformly black, without any separate eye color. He stands at an average height with a toned yet not overly muscular build. His guild stamp is located on his upper right arm, just below his shoulder.
Natsu possesses a carefree and reckless personality and, despite frequent conflicts with other guild members, he is fiercely loyal and protective towards his friends. He shares particularly close and competitive relationships with Gray Fullbuster and Erza Scarlet. With Gray, they have maintained a constant rivalry since childhood, often claiming they aren't friends, yet they always look out for each other even when angry. Similarly, his relationship with Erza has been shaped by mutual fear since childhood, and they share a good rapport, having once showered together according to Erza. Natsu tends to make friends quickly; he considered Lucy a friend and was willing to team up with her after only knowing her for a few days.
Natsu's father left him when he was very young. A dragon named Igneel found him in the forest and raised him, teaching him how to speak and use magic. However, one day Igneel vanished without explanation on July 7, X777, leaving Natsu to fend for himself. This event fueled Natsu's determination to reunite with Igneel someday.
Natsu is revealed to be Zeref's demon E.N.D. (Etherious Natsu Dragneel).
