Erza Scarlet is an S-class mage from the Fairy Tail Guild, recognized as the strongest active female mage and a key member of Team Natsu.
Erza is a tall, beautiful young woman with long red hair and brown eyes. She typically wears armor crafted by Heart Kreuz but can switch to different magical armors or even casual outfits thanks to her Requip magic. Her guild mark is on her left shoulder. Besides her standard medieval armor, she has themed armors like Flame Empress or Lightning Empress that absorb respective magic types, Adamantium armor, Samurai-style armor, and more.
Erza is known for being very strict, often reprimanding other guild members for their bad behavior, which makes most of them apologize out of fear. She values prompt responses and doesn't hesitate to knock out those who don't answer quickly. Interestingly, she sometimes views everyone as guild members, asking civilians to help during missions. Despite this, she possesses a strong sense of justice. Erza also shows a clumsy side, such as falling into a pit during the Galuna arc.
Like many Fairy Tail members, she demonstrates great loyalty and dedication to Makarov and the guild. During the war against Phantom Lord, she pushed herself beyond limits, fighting numerous powerful adversaries. When Makarov was incapacitated, she temporarily took over as the guild's leader.
Though not fully explored, it’s implied that Erza shares a close bond with Natsu Dragneel and Gray Fullbuster. At Lucy's house, Erza mentioned they used to shower together as children. It's revealed that Erza, Natsu, and Gray have been part of Fairy Tail since childhood.

Erza was once a child slave forced to help build a tower called the R-System. There, she befriended other slaves, including Gerard (or Jellal). When they attempted to rebel, evil mages overwhelmed them until Erza's magic awakened, killing the oppressors and freeing the slaves. A cult intended to resurrect Zeref using the tower. After another revolt attempt, Rob saved Erza but died in the process. Enraged, Erza unleashed her magic, controlling surrounding swords to win the battle. Later, while escaping on a boat, Erza returned to look for Gerard, only to find him possessed by Zeref, threatening her not to reveal the tower's purpose. She woke up on an island, crying over these events.
After fleeing the slave island, Erza sought Fairy Tail after hearing about it from Rob, another slave who cared for her. Eight years before the story begins, she found and joined Fairy Tail. Upon joining, she developed a habit of wearing armor for safety. Around this time, Makarov took her to Porlyusica to receive an artificial eye to replace her blinded right eye.

She served as the guild's 7th Guild Master during Makarov's absence in X792.
