Lucy is a mage and the main female protagonist of Fairy Tail, joining at the start of the primary storyline. Lucy's guild mark is located on the back of her right hand.
At the beginning of the series, Lucy is an independent novice mage seeking to join a mage guild, particularly interested in Fairy Tail, which she claims as the strongest mage guild. Although she mentions to Happy that she considered joining Fairy Tail's rival guild, Phantom Lord, due to their similar outrageous nature and personality, she remains content with her decision to join Fairy Tail. After being rescued by Natsu from the slave ship, she is invited to join the guild. Once part of Fairy Tail, Lucy becomes a member of Natsu's team.
Lucy stands out as one of the more sensible and stable members of Fairy Tail, possessing common sense that other guild members seem to lack. She frequently highlights Natsu's and others' foolishness. Lucy is also notably confident about her appearance and sexiness, exhibiting a certain level of vanity. Despite this superficial attitude, Lucy is passionate about literature and is working on writing her own novel based on her adventures with Fairy Tail. She hails from the Heartfilia family, one of the wealthiest and most influential conglomerate families in Fiore. However, due to her estranged relationship with her father and the death of her mother, she left home to forge her own path.
It should be noted that she was the only other person who managed to silence Gray and Natsu without resorting to violence. Natsu and Gray appear somewhat intimidated by her when she is upset, even though Lucy's magic isn't as potent as theirs and cannot force them into submission like Erza.
Lucy practices Stellar Spirit magic, a skill enabling her to summon spirits from another world using Gate Keys. Her Stellar Spirits vary in power and are suited for different tasks. For example, Aquarius can control water, while Taurus possesses immense strength. Alongside her keys, she also wields a whip, in which she is proficient. Lucy explains to Natsu that Stellar Spirit mages have the potential to obtain extremely rare Gold Keys, which open the gates of the "Ecliptic Zodiac," and common, store-bought Silver keys. Each gold key bears the Zodiac symbol of the spirit it summons. According to Lucy, there are numerous silver keys but only 12 gold keys. Throughout the series, Lucy has obtained 10 Gold Keys and 4 Silver Keys. She has also summoned all of her Gold keys (five at the time) and Plue simultaneously, although it lasted just a few seconds, demonstrating her considerable power. Loki's previous owner was a very powerful mage yet couldn't summon more than one spirit at a time.
She is the daughter of "Heartfillia Konzern," one of the wealthiest families in her country. Her father later became bankrupt and then returned to work in his old merchant guild. Her father and mother met in this merchant guild called Love & Lucky, and he amassed his fortune from there.
After returning from spending seven years stranded on Tenrou Island with the help of Mavis, she discovered that her father had passed away several months before her arrival.
