Kadena, a former car club member and street racer, now works as a teacher at Tsujikou, filling in for the absent Nanno. She leverages her beauty to motivate her male students to excel and entices the female students with charming university guys. Kadena feels deeply responsible for her younger brother Kazuhito's coma, as he crashed his car while racing against her. Onizuka helps lift her spirits by engaging in a race with her, demonstrating that racing can be enjoyable if done responsibly.
She later attempts to help set Shinomi up with Eikichi, but the plan doesn't go as smoothly as intended. In the anime adaptation of Great Teacher Onizuka, Nao Kadena assumes the role of the school nurse, a position held by Naoko Moritaka in the manga. Her methods and backstory closely resemble those of her character from Shonan Junai Gumi, though she is introduced as a new acquaintance to the established cast. In subsequent storylines, her actions mirror those of Moritaka from the manga.
