Birthdate: August 3, 1975
A 22-year-old, hormonal, blonde-haired biker and virgin, Eikichi Onizuka graduated from a low-tier university by cheating and, as a result, struggles to find a decent job. His primary pastime involves peering up girls' skirts at a local mall. Despite his academic shortcomings, he is remarkably athletic, capable of bench pressing 150 kg (331 lbs), holding a second dan black belt in karate, and claiming to perform 500 push-ups, 1000 pull-ups, and 2000 squats daily.
Through the events of the Great Teacher Onizuka manga, Onizuka decides to become a teacher, although it's later hinted that his IQ might be around 50 (though this is debatable). His initial teacher training takes place at Musashino Public High School, where he meets Nanako Mizuki. His experience managing unruly gangs in his assigned class strengthens his belief that teaching is his calling. When he learns about Mizuki's personal issues, he resolves to abstain from any sexual involvement with his students, opting instead to help solve their problems.
Unfortunately, he nearly ruins his career by forgetting to take the public teachers' civil service exam, which means no public high school will hire him. However, he remains eligible for private schools and manages to secure a position at the prestigious Holy Forest Academy, despite objections from Vice-Principal Hiroshi Uchiyamada, whom he continues to irritate throughout his tenure. One condition of his employment is that he must live at the school—in a storage room on the top floor with roof access—where he officially begins his teaching career by preventing Yoshikawa Noboru from committing suicide.
Onizuka is assigned to class 3-4, notorious for driving several teachers to insanity. Not only does he survive the class's brutal bullying tactics, but he also befriends his students. The core of the Great Teacher Onizuka story revolves around his unique experiences in turning his students around and learning valuable lessons along the way.
During the National Exams, it's suggested again that Onizuka might actually be some sort of genius. His exam results were swapped: once for full marks and once for just short of full marks. When Yoshito Kikuchi checks the answers himself, he is amazed. Onizuka confirms that he achieved perfect results through his own effort, an incredible feat considering he completed a five-hour exam in one hour while bleeding and having four bullets in his stomach.
Onizuka possesses extraordinary physical resilience. He has survived falls from heights that would kill most people and claims to have a healing factor, recovering from a broken arm in less than a day and enduring multiple gunshot wounds in a short period. Onizuka often showcases his strength in unintentionally flamboyant ways, such as arm wrestling over 100 men of increasing strength in a row and winning, including characters like Heihachi from the Tekken series and Jason Voorhees from the Friday the 13th films. His fighting skills are formidable, allowing him to fend off multiple well-armed opponents without sustaining significant damage.
Despite his impressive fighting abilities, Onizuka is frequently roughed up by his students and others whenever he behaves immaturely. It seems he subconsciously knows when he's acting out of line and allows others to keep him in check. For example, during a trip to Okinawa, he forces his students to dig for buried treasure. Kanzaki Urumi kicks Onizuka into a hole and later makes him wear S&M gear and crawl on all fours with her riding on his back. Another instance is when Principal Uchiyamada invites Onizuka over for dinner and hits him with a wooden bench after discovering Onizuka was playing "where's the nipple" with his daughter at a karaoke bar.
His personal mode of transportation is a Kawasaki Z2 motorcycle 750cc type S, which features prominently in the prequel series to GTO.
