A 22-year-old beautiful female teacher, the heroine of the series, graduated from Waseda University and led a relatively normal life. Her calm demeanor and moderate views can be misleading, as she proves to be exceptionally tough, sometimes even intimidating the usually unruffled Onizuka. To prepare him for a crucial teaching test, she creates an overwhelming schedule and a mountain of jelly with Maguro tuna fish eyes as garnish, pushing anyone to their limits. She teaches Japanese language (or English in the live-action version).
She falls in love with Onizuka, but both are hesitant to openly admit their feelings, referring to each other merely as "friends." This relationship is particularly vexing to Suguru Teshigawara, who finds it aggravating that someone of her qualifications would fall for someone with Onizuka's rough background. Despite initial difficulties with female students due to the boys' crushes on her, she quickly wins them over with Onizuka's advice. She has a younger sister named Makoto.
In the live-action drama, Azusa Fuyutsuki's character differs significantly from the anime and manga versions. Here, she becomes a teacher out of a sense of obligation rather than passion and envies her sister, who became a stewardess dating male celebrities and receiving luxurious gifts. Through Onizuka's influence, she ultimately decides to continue teaching, though they are often depicted as adversaries with underlying romantic tension. The live-action Fuyutsuki also harbors a general dislike for men, finding them overly possessive, but Onizuka helps her realize she shares similar tendencies. Interestingly, she witnesses many of Onizuka's personal lessons to his students.
