He is another one of the S-class mages who puts everyone to sleep every time he comes to the guild, mainly because he hates being seen. Makarov is the only person unaffected by his magic, though it still makes him tired. Laxus claims to have seen his face as well. Mystogan carries a mysterious staff that has not been elaborated on yet. He wears a bandit-style mask covering the lower half of his face and a cap covering the top, with only a slit visible between his eyes.
In chapter 120, when Mystogan tries to stop Laxus and the Thunder Palace, Laxus' lightning attack burns off Mystogan's mask, revealing a face similar to Jellal's. However, he denies being Jellal, although he admits knowing him.
Mystogan is actually the Edolas version of Jellal and the renegade prince of Edolas. In chapter 189, it was revealed that Mystogan was saved as a baby by Pantherlily, which caused his exile from Extalia. Later in chapter 268, Jellal takes over the role of Mystogan and joins Fairy Tail. It remains unknown how long he will stay with them.
