Hirohiko is a male with a notably effeminate face, though his features appear to become more masculine in later appearances. He is the current head of the Kabane Family, one of the Red Feather Families associated with the Takayanagi Family Flying Phoenix. Hirohiko is the 15th person to hold this position. He shares several traits with his ancestor from feudal Japan, Myouun Kabane, after whom he seems to be named.
Hirohiko often keeps his eyes closed and has peculiar symbols on and below his eyelids. The purpose of these symbols, if any, remains unknown, but they are similar to those found near his ancestor's eyes. Additionally, Hirohiko has a symbol on his forehead shaped like an eye, which is usually hidden by his hair. He is blind, with his pupils having been removed at birth as part of his family’s power tradition.
Like his friend Mitsuiro Tokuan Shōjō, Hirohiko aims to complete his ancestor's work. He appears very laid-back; for instance, he doesn’t even get up or look towards Nokimi Mayutsubo when he destroys her insects, and he yawns out of boredom. Animals seem to enjoy his company, as two birds sit near him on the roof and even perch on his head. Hirohiko also possesses a good sense of humor, attempting to write on Aya Natsume’s forehead while she was immobilized and mocking Mitsuomi Takayanagi’s hairstyle. He is quite insightful, able to discern that all of Aya’s ki is flowing to Reiki and that her consciousness is elsewhere simply by smelling her.
Hirohiko assures Aya that they are not enemies. However, after appearing in a limousine alongside Dōgen Takayanagi, Mitsuomi, and Mitsuiro, he is listed on the Enforcement Group’s roster, as pointed out by Emi Isuzu. Later, he protects Nokimi from Aya, albeit reluctantly, and warns her to retreat or face his attack. Thus, his true stance regarding the Juuken Club remains unclear.
