In the original Japanese media, his name is Mister Satan. In FUNimation's English dub and Viz Media's English manga version, it was changed to Hercule. The U.S. edition of Shonen Jump explains that Hercule is his real name, while Mr. Satan was his stage name, although this explanation was not present in the original version. He is voiced by Daisuke Gouri in Japanese, Chris Rager in the FUNimation dub, and Don Brown in the UK and Canadian English versions.
Although he has never directly saved the world, he played a crucial role in defeating Kid Buu by convincing everyone on Earth to contribute energy to Goku's Genki Dama. Additionally, he had a direct role in defeating Majin Buu. After his first appearance in the Cell Saga, humor often revolves around his inflated ego, arrogance, and desire for attention, which the Z Fighters find irritating at best. Notably, he has never lost a World Martial Arts Tournament he participated in, nor has he died, making him one of the few characters in the series with this distinction, along with his granddaughter Pan.
He has a daughter named Videl, who dates and eventually marries Son Gohan. This relationship is referenced in the video games Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2 and Budokai Tenkaichi 3. If Adult Gohan and Mr. Satan are matched in a fight, the opening dialogue starts with Mr. Satan saying, "If you want to go out with my daughter, you'll have to go through me!" Gohan replies, "Wait, it's not like that!" The fight then begins.
