Mr. Popo is an immortal djinn residing with Kami at Kami's Lookout, where he is eternally bound as the gardener and caretaker. He has served every Earth Kami (God/Guardian) since the dawn of time. Trained by the most recent Kami, Mr. Popo also trained Goku for three years to prepare him for a battle against Piccolo. Mr. Popo is a highly skilled martial arts master. When introduced in Dragon Ball, his fighting abilities far surpass Goku's in almost every aspect during their initial meeting at the Lookout. Alongside Kami, Mr. Popo trains Krillin, Tien Shinhan, Yamcha, Chiaotzu, and Yajirobe to help them combat the impending threat of the Saiyans. They employ various training methods, including the Pendulum Room, to demonstrate the immense power even lower-class Saiyans possess. Mr. Popo and Kami observe that Piccolo has become significantly less evil than he was five years ago, noting that Raditz’s soul, killed by Piccolo, did not become lost like other souls killed by demons. In the Imperfect Cell Saga, Mr. Popo bids Kami a final farewell when Kami permanently fuses with Piccolo to become the Nameless Namek, aiming to gain more power to fight the Androids who wish to kill Goku. When Buu escapes from the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, Mr. Popo and others are turned into chocolate and consumed. However, before this fate befalls him, upon witnessing the murders of Android 18 and her daughter, Mr. Popo bravely decides to seize Dende and hurl him off the Lookout to save him from Buu’s rampage. His bravery is commended by Piccolo when the Namekian finds the surviving Dende.
