Mister Halling is one of the numerous miners residing in the Frontier Mining Town of Youswell. Due to his friendly and clear-headed demeanor, he has been selected by the local mining community as their unofficial leader and spokesperson. He represents them in ongoing, though unsuccessful, negotiations with Youswell's landowner, Lieutenant Yoki.
Because of Yoki's excessive property taxes, Halling, along with many other residents of Youswell, runs a tavern with his wife and son Kyle. The tavern serves as a place where the town's weary miners can rest and relax after a hard day in the coal mines. However, it primarily functions as a means to extract money from tourists by charging an exorbitant 200,000 cenz per night, helping the residents meet Yoki's unreasonable demands. Halling is known for his kindness and generosity, often willing to take a financial loss if it means helping a friend in need.
