Mato is the official referee and mascot for the Grand Magic Games' events. He's frequently observed smiling and dancing, but he harbors a somewhat dark personality. This darker side becomes apparent when he grins while declaring that they bear no responsibility for any deaths occurring within the labyrinth. Mato has a habit of concluding his sentences with "Pum" or "Kabo" in Japanese.
It is later disclosed that he is actually the king of Fiore in disguise.
