Matilda Ajan serves as the commanding officer of the Earth Federation's Medea supply corps. Occasionally, she acts as a personal envoy for General Revil, delivering messages and orders to various ships. When the White Base found itself trapped in Zeon-controlled airspace over North America, it was the critical supplies provided by Matilda's Medea supply corps that enabled the ship to make essential repairs and escape across the Pacific Ocean.
Due to her habit of appearing whenever the White Base is in trouble and offering assistance, Matilda has become known as the guardian angel of the vessel. Her striking beauty also makes her the object of affection for many young male crew members aboard the White Base, particularly the youthful Amuro Ray. Matilda is engaged to Lieutenant Woody Malden, a chief military engineer stationed at the Earth Federation headquarters in Jaburo.
Upon reaching Asia, Matilda delivered orders for the White Base to proceed to Ukraine to participate in Operation Odessa, a significant military operation aimed at reclaiming the mining facilities at Odessa from the Principality of Zeon.
