Char is one of the most feared pilots of the Principality of Zeon. During his first battle at Loum, Char managed to destroy five Federation Salamis-class ships single-handedly. He earned the title "Red Comet" due to his swift maneuvers and red-colored Zaku II. Char's true intention was to eliminate all members of the Zabi family for assassinating his father, the original Zeon leader, Zeon Zum Deikun.
Throughout the One Year War in U.C. 0079, Char persistently pursued the White Base crew. He encountered Amuro several times, engaging in some of the most legendary battles in mobile suit history.
During the One Year War, Char utilized numerous mobile suits, with only one not being red. The mobile suits he used were: Zaku II, Z'Gok, Gelgoog, and the Zeong. In the novels, he also piloted a red Rick Dom.
After the war between Zeon and the Federation, Char joined the AEUG under the alias Quattro Bajeena to assist in liberating oppressed colonies from the Titans. At AEUG, he served as an instructor, commander, and eventually became the leader following the assassination of the previous leader. His mobile suits during his tenure as Lieutenant Quattro included the pseudo-Gundam, Hyaku Shiki, and before that, the red-painted Rick Dias.
Subsequently, Char took command of the remaining Zeon remnants, reforming them into the Newborn Neo Zeon to continue his father’s legacy. During this phase, he piloted the newtype-specialist mobile suit Sazabi (and in the novel, the Nightingale), returning to the red color scheme he is renowned for.
