Amuro was born on Earth and grew up in the space colonies of Side 7. His father, an Earth Federation technician, worked on developing new weapon designs. Witnessing his father's work firsthand, Amuro became highly skilled in mechanics himself. When Zeon forces attacked his colony, he commandeered the RX-78-2 Gundam to defend it.
Through numerous battles, Amuro discovered his Newtype abilities and emerged as one of the most formidable mobile suit pilots. Due to the Gundam's white color, he earned the nickname "White Ghost" among his adversaries.
Following the One Year War, Amuro was placed under house arrest by the Titans, who feared he would join the AEUG. Eventually, with assistance from his friend Fraw Bow, he did just that and escaped Titan custody. He teamed up with Kamille and trained him in the ways of a Newtype, but felt a twinge of jealousy knowing he was no longer the celebrated Gundam pilot.
After the conflict between the Titans and the AEUG, Amuro rejoined the E.F.S.F. to combat the Neo Zeon threat. He became part of the Londo Bell forces under Bright Noa.
Amuro soon became one of the E.F.S.F.'s top pilots and was honored as one of its most distinguished soldiers.
