As the Chief Investigator and a subordinate to Keigo, Masumi was part of the team tasked with safeguarding Father Haiman from the terrorist Minene Uryuu. Despite the perilous circumstances, Masumi harbored feelings for Minene and seized every chance he got to invite "her" out for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, much to Minene's bewilderment and frustration.
Masumi eventually proposes to Minene, who by then had also developed feelings for him. However, their happiness is short-lived as Masumi meets a tragic end when he is fatally shot before they can officially tie the knot.
In the final episode, viewers see a version of Minene from the Second World living together with Nishijima from the Third World, which might be interpreted as a 'happy ending' for them.
