murasako masao

A 17-year-old villager. He is friends with the Mutou siblings, particularly Tohru, and harbors a strong dislike for Natsuno. Masao is an insensitive, cowardly person who craves everyone's attention in a childish manner; his sister-in-law remarks that he resents his nephew because before the child's birth, Masao was always the favored one in the family. He gets bitten by the Shiki-transformed librarian of Sotoba and also turns into a Shiki. On the night the villagers begin their uprising against the Shiki, he pleads with Megumi to escape with him, but she promptly rejects him, noting that he only wants her along so he won't be the only one disobeying the Kirishiki's orders. In the anime, during the chaos of the human mob, Masao tries to seek refuge with his sister, but she strikes him on the head with an iron pole and then stakes his chest. In the manga, as the Shiki extermination intensifies, Masao seeks safety. After briefly considering his father and brother, he concludes only his sister will assist him. Upon arriving home, he begs his niece to let him inside. Believing he is alone, he plans to feed on her and his family, thinking he can dominate them. As he enters the house, Chizuko throws a cleaver at his head, incapacitating him. Lying wounded, Chizuko scolds him as she proceeds to stake him.
