Lapras is a marine reptilian Pokémon that looks like a plesiosaur. It features a blue skin with darker blue spots and a cream-colored belly. Its large brown eyes, short forehead horn, and tightly curled ears are notable characteristics. This Pokémon has a long neck and four flippers, with the front ones being larger than the rear ones. A heavy, gray shell adorned with blunt knobs covers its back.
Lapras is known for its gentle and helpful nature, often assisting people in crossing water bodies. Historically, its docile temperament made it an easy target for hunters, pushing it to near extinction. However, recent conservation efforts have led to an overabundance of Lapras, now affecting fish Pokémon populations in some regions. An intelligent creature, it can comprehend human speech. Lapras travels in large groups across various seas, from polar to tropical zones. To communicate with its kind, it sings enchanting melodies, typically when in a good mood. In the anime, Lapras demonstrated psychic abilities such as telepathy. In Alola, Lapras serves as a Ride Pokémon called Lapras Paddle, used by locals for travel and fishing.
Forms
Lapras possesses a Gigantamax form. As Gigantamax Lapras, it grows significantly larger and more armored. Its shell resembles a cruise ship or ocarina, featuring four gray and red stripes around it, along with four spikes on top, one of which looks like a steel funnel surrounded by three red clouds. The sclera in its eyes changes to white, yellow, and blue. A light blue ring of fine thin lines resembling musical notes made from ice particles encircles its shell.
Gigantamax Lapras can comfortably carry 5,000 people on its shell without any issues. It uses its giant ring to break through icebergs that may obstruct its path. According to Oleana, Gigantamax Lapras's shell is not part of its body, as it has a logarithmic spiral structure.
