Lalah is a young woman renowned as the "star student" of Professor Flanagan due to her exceptional Newtype abilities. Consequently, she is also one of the primary test subjects in the development of Newtype-related weaponry. As one of the earliest and most successful known Newtypes, her powers come with a deep spiritual awareness.
Despite her gentle demeanor, Lalah is fiercely loyal to Char Aznable, who saved her life when he found her working in an Indian brothel after losing her parents in the war. She pilots the MAN-08 Elmeth mobile armor as part of the Newtype research project by the Flanagan Institute and holds the rank of ensign under Char.
Lalah first encountered Amuro Ray on Side 6, where they briefly spoke near a lakeside house. Amuro was drawn to her through his Newtype abilities. They met again when Amuro's car got stuck in the mud. Another vehicle stopped to help; inside were Lalah and Char Aznable. Amuro recognized them immediately, though Char and Lalah did not yet know his identity.
Lalah had a profound impact on Amuro, becoming his first great love. During the Elmeth’s test run, its Newtype "bits" wreaked havoc on the Federal Fleet guarding Solomon. Amuro, piloting the Gundam, engaged the Elmeth and discovered Lalah was the pilot. Both realized they were soulmates and shared a telepathic bond. However, Char intervened, accusing Lalah of "consorting with the enemy." He aimed to strike down Sayla Mass, piloting the CoreBooster jet, but Lalah stopped him, recognizing Sayla as Char’s sister Artesia. This hesitation allowed Amuro to disable Char’s Gelgoog, but Lalah took a fatal blow meant for Char, deeply affecting both men.
Although Lalah died before the end of the One Year War, her spirit occasionally returns to haunt both Char and Amuro Ray, as depicted in Char’s Counterattack.
