Rattata is a small, four-legged rodent Pokémon. It has purple fur with a cream-colored face, paws, and underbelly. Its narrow eyes feature white sclera and red irises with black pupils, rounded ears lined with cream color inside, and a single whisker on each cheek. Its long tail curls tightly at the end. One of its most striking features is its large teeth, which continuously grow throughout its life and need to be worn down by gnawing. Female Rattata have shorter whiskers.
Rattata can thrive wherever food is available, spending most of the day searching for it. Thanks to its sharp fangs, it can chew almost anything. When threatened, Rattata can deliver a strong bite. It keeps its ears upright and will quickly scurry away at the slightest sound. Furret is a natural predator of Rattata. Due to its resilience, it can live in various environments, though it mainly inhabits plains and savannas. Because it reproduces rapidly, a pair of Rattata can quickly colonize an area.
Forms
Rattata has a regional variant known as Alolan Rattata. Non-native to Alola, these Pokémon arrived via cargo ships. The Rattata population in Alola grew rapidly until Yungoos and Gumshoos were introduced to control their numbers. To evade these new predators, Rattata changed its habits. It moved to more urban areas, became nocturnal, and formed large nests led by Raticate. Alolan Rattata finds fresh food by smell and avoids spoiled items. It has been known to sneak into homes to find food. This variant has dark gray fur and grayish-purple inner ears, two tufts of fur on each ear, and near the tip of its tail. Instead of long, thin whiskers, it has short, thick tufts of fur. The line where its cream underbelly meets its gray fur is ragged rather than smooth.
Evolution
Rattata evolves into Raticate. Similarly, Alolan Rattata evolves into Alolan Raticate.
